Lexus has introduced the all-new ES to South Africa, bringing a larger footprint, more advanced technology and a choice of hybrid or fully electric power. The eighth-generation model also arrives with a redesigned cabin, fresh styling and expanded levels of comfort and safety.

What is it?
The new ES serves as Lexus's flagship sedan in South Africa and replaces the previous generation with a significantly larger and more modern offering. Despite the continued popularity of SUVs, the ES remains focused on buyers seeking executive comfort, refinement and long-distance cruising ability.
The range consists of three derivatives: the ES 350h EX, ES 350h SE and the fully electric ES 350e SE. The latest model adopts Lexus's new design language and benefits from increased dimensions, creating more interior space and a stronger road presence.
Powertrains:
The ES 350h EX and ES 350h SE are powered by Lexus's latest 2.5-litre self-charging hybrid system. The petrol engine develops 139 kW and 235 Nm, while total system output stands at 182 kW. Power is delivered to the front wheels through an E-CVT transmission.
The ES 350e SE adopts a fully electric powertrain. Its front-mounted electric motor produces 167 kW and 268 Nm, drawing energy from a 74.69 kWh battery pack. Lexus claims a driving range of up to 615 km on the NEDC cycle, while DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 0 to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.
Interior:
The cabin introduces a new Lexus design philosophy centred around simplicity and technology. A digital instrument display, new steering wheel and electronic shifter contribute to a cleaner appearance.
A notable feature is the introduction of Hidden Switch technology. The controls are integrated beneath the dashboard surface and illuminate only when the vehicle is activated. Depending on model grade, equipment includes heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic roof, wireless charging, rear sunshades, a digital interior mirror and Lexus's Auto Climate Concierge system.

Exterior:
The ES adopts a sharper appearance than before. Lexus has evolved its traditional spindle design into a cleaner front-end treatment integrated into the bodywork.
New Twin L Signature lighting elements, semi-flush door handles and a full-width rear lighting signature further modernise the sedan. Hybrid derivatives ride on 19-inch alloy wheels, while the electric ES 350e SE receives distinctive 21-inch wheels.

Features:
Standard equipment includes a 14-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch driver's display, adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist, road-sign assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
The ES 350h SE adds features such as a Head-Up Display, Panoramic View Monitor, Automatic Parking, Mark Levinson audio system and Active Noise Control. The ES 350e SE further gains adaptive variable suspension, semi-aniline leather upholstery and heated and ventilated front seats.
Prices and warranty:
Lexus ES 350h EX (R1 051 200), Lexus ES 350h SE (R1 232 700) and the Lexus ES 350e SE (R1 561 000).
The range includes a seven-year/105 000 km warranty and maintenance plan, while hybrid and electric batteries are covered by an eight-year/160 000 km warranty.
Honda has expanded its local SUV line-up with the introduction of the CR-V RS e:HEV AWD. The newcomer brings hybrid power to the CR-V range while adding updated styling, additional technology and a revised cabin layout.
Peugeot has expanded its Landtrek line-up with the addition of a new turbodiesel-powered model aimed at buyers looking for increased performance, greater towing capability and updated technology. The latest derivatives join the range from October 2026 and introduce a significant powertrain upgrade for the bakkie.
